the Flat Screen: Model Takeover: 'Project Runway' - Ep 4

This week the Designers are surprised to hear that their Models are actually their clients and the challenge is to dress their models in a design that displays their true styles as well as set them apart from the other model chicks at an industry event.

First reactions ........Johnny is geeked about the challenge because him and Emarie work well together besides, she is fab. Epperson was struggling, Qrystal doesn't want to go with her client's colour palette & go against a design in black and for reason, Logan freaks out even though Kojii gives him a lot of cute concepts to work with (i.e. 50's, cosmo, girly, etc.)
On Tim's check in -
Althea is looking and sounding good: Her concept and pace are strong and immediately, I look forward to the finished project. Tanisha is opting to step out from the rest by not getting a dress but instead a stylish 3-piece suit so despite Althea having her work cut out for her, she has it all under control.
Q's is looking messy; and the minute Tim gives feedback about the messy ensemble' she totally gives up and starts from scratch...to what?! a basic black dress; the very thing she did not want to do.
As you know I am a Carol Hanna fan, and I do think the outfit is cute, but I totally agreed with Tim and that, the shirt and bottom look sort of grannyish. I really don't want her pieces to start to move to the back for me, but I'm no longer impressed at least not at 1st glance.
Epperson is taking the distance from his family hard which may be his driving force or kill him in the end but we shall see.
Johnny goes into diva mode telling the model in so many words, to 'not to tell him how to make his clothes'. From methhead to Diva all in 4 episodes ...interesante
To the runway we go,
Judging was hardcore...
Gordana's and Shirin's are cool. Chris' green apple dress is amazingly hot finished. Louise creates a piece that screams Fatma 100% and it looks soooo fab (see right)....And just like that Louise moves to my 'The Designer to be reckoned with' list. Celine and Nicholas have a great dress too and he shows he is not all costumish. Ra'Mons explosion of blue flower was great for me and Vanessa because I am plotting how I can get that. Carol Hanna's soft purple and hard leather is hotness! Just by adding a strap the shirt gained youth and solidify's her great decision to listen to Mr. Gunn.
Epperson has made a dress that started plain but instantly became one of a kind.
I almost choked when Heidi called Johnny's dress a Bridesmaid dress and both Q and her model gets roasted for her plain black dress.
Althea's suit is flyy and I'm wit the judges, I want it too! The boy, tuxedo blazer and shorts was so so everyday and definitely sets her apart from the rest.
The verdict is a much deserved win for Althea !!! While, Carol Hanna, Johnny and Epp are in....Q and Logan are left on the chopping block....both missed the mark but Q got the boot for being plain Jane. See the sketches and Tanisha to the right --->>>
So since it was the models as clients, I was curious to watch Models of the Runway. and its funny to find out...Vanessa, Lisa and Tanisha are the Dream Team....these are the chicks that are killing it on the runway. I agree but I think Kojii needs to be up in there somewhere because thats my boo aside from Tanisha. Sadly, Chris has to choose his model and its a no-brainer, Val gets the boot AGAIN.
See ya next week!

The Internal Memo: The Reg Dude's Drive to 1M Twitter Followers

The Big Guy In Charge has lost his mind and tonight at 9 PM EST the official "Reg Dude's Drive to 1M Twitter Followers" kicks off.

I started thinking, what will take for just a regular guy like myself [@RannyRan on Twitter] to reach 1M followers. We are going to kick off a ton of crazy campaigns to reach this number and our goal is to reach it by Spring 10. I know it will be an uphill battle, but I promise we will push it hard and strong [no pun intended lol].

Stay tuned to OURBLOC.com and Twitter.com for updates on our progress. As of 9/10/2009, I currently have 483 followers on Twitter.

Spread the message its gonna be crazy wild. if we hit the number....

the Polling Station: Was the Speech Done in A High School Gym or on the Hill?

As many of you know last night President Obama was heckled by Rep. Joe Wilson (SC) during his speech on Healthcare Reform. Regardless of what side you are on when it comes to Healthcare, elected officials are not to behave in this manner. Constituents sure, but elected officials at a forum such as last night's speech, not cool.

Check it out for yourself

the WALKMAN: The BluePrint3 Free Album Stream and Review

9/8/09 finally arrived and BP3 was dropped 3 days early from its original date of 9/11/09. In traditional Jay-Z fashion, Hov made sure the buzz for his album was crazy. There were more leaks than a busted water main pipe, Twitter had Jay-Z as a trending topic for the last 5 days, and the bootlegged induced chatter was off the meter. Regardless if you like the album or not, Jay-Z is a marketing juggernaut; until he is dethroned, he can push anything through his pipeline and it will go Platinum. Bloc Heads, Jay is here to stay PERIOD

Enough DR-ing, but Jay deserves our respect. The BluePrint 3, Jay-Z’s latest project released on his ROC Nation label was interesting to say the least. How can I say this… hmmm give me a minute… ok enough stalling … the album is gets a “IT’S COOL (*in my VW spokesperson voice*). If this was BP 1, BP3 would probably be a figment of our imagination; just a mere dream whose reality would exist in fairy tale land right next to Unicorns and Leprechauns. Out of the 17 tracks on the exclusive edition, 8 are star worthy and 5 in my opinion are CLASSIC [meaning the whole single is flawless…what we expect from Jay-Z]. Unfortunately, over half the tracks sounded amateur at best. It was as if Jay dumb down his music to appeal to the masses that love Souljah Boy, wanna Stanky Leg, or get their musical playlist from the other trash that is played on Urban Radio. Music must evolve, but when you’re a classic artist capable of delivering lyrical assaults not satires, Jay-Z has no business watering down anything to appease anyone.

Jay if this is your re-invention of one-self; please stop and make more classic tracks. We need instant vintage from you again.

I will say this album is way better than American Gangster. Another aspect I enjoyed about the album is how Jay allowed for the future of the Hip Hop game to shine. Pretty much every single that featured a newly signed artist or up and coming star, with the exception the Drizzy Drake garbage track, was classic. It kind of makes one wonder if Jay-Z actually did BP3 as a crazy hyped mix-tape allowing for the newly signed to shine. Things that make you go hmmmm…

Let’s Break Down the Tracks :

CLASSIC – (Possess the Trifecta - Lyrical Content, Beat, Hook)

A Star is Born
Young Forever
Empire State of Mind
Already Home
So Ambitious

Diggin’ Hard – (Just Shy of the Trifecta)

D.O.A
On To the Next One
What We Are Talking About

It’s Cool (Has Strong Potential, just not enough)

Thank You
Jockin’
Run This Town

When is Garbage Day?

Real as it Gets
Off That
Venus vs. Mars
Hate
Reminder
D.O.A. [Exclusive Mix]

Don’t take review as gospel, a review is just my interpretation of what I thought should have happened compared to what did happen. Listen to the album yourself and formulate your own opinion. We would love read your comments, so don’t hesitate to sign the gold dome or spit your venom on the boards.

Final note: I am sure after my umpteen continuous plays I will dig this album; hey it’s Jay-z lol.

How can you build someone up when you're torn down?

How can you show someone the light when you live in the dark?

How can you make a difference if you're afraid of change?

How can you possibly extend your love, when in your heart lives hate?

How can you give life when you flirt with death?

Rants and Raves: I Have No Sympathy for Geekers

All weekend long, I have tossed and turned over whether or not to write this Rant and Rave, but as you can read I chose to run with the post...here we go...

Last week, Maia Campbell’s strung out pics, videos and details of her arrest set the net a blaze. On Twitter, residents of Twitterville went in enough to make Maia Campbell the #1 trending topic for at least 12-15 hours. Since I LOVE TO STEP ON LANDMINES, I jumped into the conversation, but I actually went in against Ms. Campbell. All this did was make everyone mad at me.

Please understand this piece is not about Maia Campbell, it's about how I feel about individuals in this situation. After 20 minutes of going in, members of Twitter where sending me @ messages calling me insensitive, saying that Maia Campbell is sick and that I was going to hell for saying what I said about her.

*clearing throat* "I HAVE NO SYMPATHY FOR STRUNG OUT DRUG ABUSERS!"

She's not sick…she has a bad habit, one that she can break if she really wants to break it. She's an adult, so STOP PACIFYING these individuals; all you're doing is adding to the problem.

Here are a few questions I have for everyone:

-          Why do people wait until the last possible moment to try and wean someone off drugs?

-          Why do people want to be Captain Save a Drug Abuser after someone gets into trouble?

-          Why do we call these individuals sick or say they have a sickness? Or say they just can't help themselves, when they are grown adults?

-          When it comes to famous individuals who do things, why do fans navigate to them and show an array of support, but when it comes to the local crack fiend in their hometown, they can't do anything for them?

Folks it is what it is, yes it's disappointing to see friends, family, random people strung out, but all we can do is say STOP! It's up to them to stop. No one has control over someone else's decision, regardless of what you believe. When they get to GEEKER status, they know it's not good for them, but they choose to chase the high rather than life.

I’m not judging them, I mean we all have our vices regardless if you admit it or not. At the end of the day stop calling them sick or providing them fictional diagnosis' that allow you to cope with their problem.

Call it a habit, Call it a problem, hell call them Career Contributors to their dealer, call them whatever you want to call them. At the end of the day they are ADULTS, and as an adult everyone knows right from wrong.

What do you think? The 1st Amendment is alive and well here, so feel free to say whatever you want. Post anonymously or put it out there... regardless www.OURBLOC.com is home for your comments.
